Candace Dickinson, MA, LMHC
Early on in my personal and professional life, I developed a deep passion for compassion and healing, which fueled my desire to learn more about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I was particularly drawn to working with clients who experience the heavy burdens of trauma and depression. My educational journey took me to the esteemed Boston University School of Medicine, where I earned my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine. Throughout this enriching experience, I came to realize that I needed to focus on my own personal growth, leading me to pursue my own therapy specifically for complex PTSD (cPTSD). I consider myself fortunate to have received such wonderful counseling during that time, which ultimately inspired me to tailor my professional practice towards effective treatments that truly work for my clients.
One of the most impactful methods I have integrated into my work is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which I found to be a powerful tool in unlocking the support needed to release traumatic memories that felt so deeply locked in my clients' minds. Additionally, I have embraced Somatic therapy, which has been beneficial not just for me, but also for my clients, as we transition from ignoring physical sensations to understanding and fully feeling them. I acknowledge that this process can be intimidating for many, so I prioritize weaving in valuable education about cPTSD, which can empower you to challenge your own thoughts and worries before we dive into the deeper work together.
Individualized care is truly a cornerstone of healing from cPTSD, and I am genuinely glad to say that we will collaborate closely to determine what approaches are best suited for you and what resonates most deeply with your unique healing journey. Recovery is entirely possible, and there is life beyond cPTSD. I warmly invite you to explore individualized trauma therapy from the comfort of your own home or in my welcoming office located in the beautiful North Shore.
